Program Kembar Praperkhidmatan B. Ed (TESL) pusingan ketiga yang akan dilaksanakan antara institusi Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM) dan universiti luar negara diluluskan Kabinet baru-baru ini, kata Menteri Pelajaran Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
Beliau berkata kelulusan itu selaras dengan usaha untuk menambah bilangan guru-guru bahasa Inggeris yang fasih, berkualiti dan dapat menguasai ilmu pengetahuan dengan baik.
“Kementerian Pelajaran sudah meluluskan penyertaan seramai 1,000 pelajar untuk dua kumpulan bagi menyertai program itu,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan akhbar di sini, Jumaat.
Kumpulan ini akan menjadi model dan penanda aras bukan sahaja kepada guru-guru bahasa Inggeris tetapi juga guru-guru Sains dan Matematik.
Terdapat sembilan universiti luar negara terlibat antaranya Canterbury Christ Church University, University Of Auckland, University Of Warwick, University Of Portsmouth dan Victoria University Of Wellington.
Sepuluh IPGM akan terlibat mengadakan program itu, antaranya Institut Perguruan Bahasa-Bahasa Antarabangsa, Institut Perguruan Persekutuan Pulau Pinang, Institut Perguruan Ipoh Perak, Institut Perguruan Ilmu Khas, Institut Perguruan Kota Bharu dan Institut Perguruan Darul Aman.
Hishammuddin berkata antara faedah program berkembar itu adalah pemindahan teknologi dan kepakaran daripada aspek kurikulum, penilaian, jaminan kualiti serta akreditasi dapat diteruskan dan diaplikasikan ke tahap maksimum.
Katanya pelajar juga akan berpeluang membuat perbandingan antara sistem pendidikan serta mempelajari teknik pengajaran dan pembelajaran terkini dengan lebih berkesan di negara universiti yang mengambil bahagian.
“IPGM juga akan mendapat pengiktirafan daripada universiti luar negara bagi melaksanakan program latihan guru secara kerjasama sesuai dengan matlamat pengantarabangsaan IPGM,” katanya.
Beliau berkata program itu dapat menarik calon terbaik lepasan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) untuk menceburkan diri dalam profesion perguruan.

Salam… Persoalan anda agak sukar untuk dijawab kerana saya tidak mempunyai maklumat mengenai ketiga-tiga program pengajian tersebut, twinning program dan Asasi TESL. Diharap ada pembaca lain yang dapat membantu anda.
Cuma memang benar jika anda mengambil kursus BI selain daripada di institut perguruan anda tidak terikat untuk menjadi seorang guru.
Berkenaan pemberian netbook dan bantuan broadband belum ada maklumat terperinci mengenainya kerana difahamkan bukan semua pelajar baru akan mendapatnya secara automatik.

Sebenarnya saya tidak ada maklumat mengenai bagaimana program ini dijalankan atau proses permohonannya. Cuma saya jangka mereka yang cemerlang dan berjaga mengikuti program TESL akan diberi keutamaan selepas mendaftar nanti. Walaupun begitu untuk kepastian cuba hubungi Unit Pengambilan dan Penempatan Pelajar di Bahagian Pendidikan Guru, KPM di talian 03 8884 1260/ 1245/ 1243/ 1235/ 1229/ 1228.

sy pelajar jurusan tesl ambilan julai 2009 di ipg tempatan, dan sy sngt berbangga menjadi pelajar tesl..tetapi,bermula dari tahun sy iaitu tahun 2009,tiada lagi program berkembar dengan universiti luar negara seperti yg diadakan sebelum ini..jadi, sy ingin mengetahui sebabnya kerana kadang2 sy berasa sedikit jeles dengan pelajar senior tesl yg berpeluang melanjutkan pelajaran ke luar negara..

Arts (English) in arts and social sciences fac. The major differences are the course contents that are employed in each of the courses. For TESL, it is meant to train teachers or trainers for english language in which the course emphasizes on ELT methodology as well as enhancing the students' proficiency in english. Apart from that,students are required to take a combination of literature subjects such as writing about literature, poetry, prose, drama, Shakespeare on screen, language of literature and texts for school. It is aimed at giving the students an exposure on literary area for them to teach in school after graduation. This course, on the other hand, requires the students to go for teaching practice in school for one semester to expose the students with the school's atmosphere and its daily routine. In UM, the students are required to do an academic writing which is known as mini thesis in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of Bachelor of Education (TESL). This is the only distinct that differs UM from other universities that uphold the standard of quality education in line with its tag line "research university" that enables the students to explore more in research, and thus, preparing the students with a platform for the higher degree such as Master and Doctorate. The career prospect is broader in the sense that the graduates can market themselves in variety of fields and not only limited to being a teacher. The fields available are journalism, Advertisement, Corporate Communication, Academician in University etc..
For Bachelor of Language and Linguistic (English as second language), the course is focusing on the linguistic features of English language whereby the central emphasize is on the semiotic,semantic, syntax as well as the history of English linguistic. There are also subjects like language for specific purposes, language and civilization,language discourse, Practical two-way translation etc. Apart of that, students are required to complete the 4- level of english language proficiency which is aimed at enhancing the proficiency in the subject matter and consequently will improve the quality of the graduates… This course is clearly does not include any English Language Teaching Methodology because its purpose is not to prepare the students to teach in school.

The programme is comparable to those offered in universities in the United Kingdom and the United State of America.
Canonical literatures in English that cover the whole period of development of English Literature, from the Medieval to the Modern, form the foundation for the Bachelor of Arts (English) programme.
Due emphasis is also given to literature in English from other parts of the world such as Africa, India, Australia and USA. Apart from these, the department also offers courses reflective of current interdisciplinary developments in English Literature, such as 'Literature and Popular Culture', 'Language of Literature', and 'Shakespeare on Screen'.
